Separation is a beautiful and haunting melody by Walt, and a great set of changes for soloing. This colorful arrangement, a medium swinger, features the saxes on flutes and clarinets. For fans of Walt's nonet writing--as all should be--you'll hear some familiar material and some new. The two solo sections can be opened up for various soloists. A delicate woodwind soli gives way to a bawdy shout. [instrumentation: 5 saxes, 8 brass, 4 rhythm with optional solo tenor part]
