Composed by Walt Weiskopf and Arranged by Alan Baylock
Walt's music is never short on either creativity or intensity. The Gates of Madrid is in essence a blowing tune based on rhythm changes, but Walt never settles for the ordinary, and he gives this tune a twisting and angular melody that grabs your attention right from the start. Alan Baylock cleverly loads this with material from Walt’s own soloing to produce a wonderful saxes and brass bebop soli that trades phrases with the tenor soloist. This is lots of fun, and there’s plenty of blowing space. [Instr: 5 saxes, 8 brass, 4 rhythm with optional 3rd tenor part for use with guest soloist]
