Composed by Walt Weiskopf and Arranged by Alan Baylock
Here at Pro Jazz Charts, we love the writing of saxophone master Walt Weiskopf! Originally recorded with his nonet on Walt's "Song for My Mother," Barebones is a fountain of intensity. This minor blues in 7/4 is a blast to play on, both in 7 and as it goes into 4 later in the chart. Solos can be opened up for any number of soloists. The 7/4 head is intuitive to feel and count. Of course, Alan's arrangement for big band is superb. You'll love it! [Instrumentation: 5 saxes, 8 brass, 4 rhythm, with optional 3rd tenor part for 5 saxes + guest soloist]
The recording is from "The 2016 Jazz Heritage Series" by The Airmen of Note.
